Ways to Share the Campaign

Every Crossing Counts activities can be as simple or as involved as your time, location, and resources allow. Choose an approach that works well for your community.

Information Table

Set up an information table at a community center, senior center, college, transportation hub, health fair, or other public location. Display Every Crossing Counts materials, and invite visitors to learn how drivers and cyclists can respond safely when they encounter pedestrians using white canes or guide dogs.

Library Display

Work with a local library to create an Every Crossing Counts display. Include campaign brochures, flyers, and bookmarks along with books about blindness and guide dogs and information about white cane laws and accessible pedestrian travel. Materials can be displayed for a day, a week, or for a longer period.

Workplace Awareness Day

Share the campaign with employees, customers, or members of a professional organization. Place brochures in common areas, include campaign information in a newsletter or staff email, display a flyer, or invite a speaker to give a brief presentation.

Community Presentation

Offer a short presentation to a civic group, school, driver education class, neighborhood association, service club, law enforcement agency, bicycle group, or transportation organization. Explain how to recognize white canes and guide dogs, why predictable actions matter, and how drivers and cyclists can make every crossing count. Use the Every Crossing Counts Talking Points as a guide for key campaign messages and information to share.

White Cane Awareness Walk

Organize a walk led by people who are blind or have low vision to raise awareness of white canes, guide dogs, and pedestrian safety. Choose a safe, accessible route; obtain any required permissions; invite community members and leaders to participate; and arrange volunteers as needed. Share clear information about the route, distance, transportation, and weather plans. The walk can celebrate independent travel while emphasizing everyone’s role in creating safer street crossings.
